Week 9: Finishing Strong

It’s here! Our last day of study together. More than anything, I pray that you have grown closer to Jesus. HE IS everything, and growing your relationship with Jesus is the key to receiving every blessing He poured out for you from the cross. He died so that you could have life more abundant. I sincerely hope you have begun to discover that abundance!

Your Assignment

Your journey through Tested by Fire may be over, but your journey with Jesus has just begun. He desires to lead you into your inheritance and bring forth gold, silver, and costly stones from your life. Are you ready to let Him?

Take some time to read through this Prayer of Commitment. I suggest you print it out and keep it in your Bible. Use it as part of your daily prayers to help you remember what it is that God wants to do with your life and help you stay on the path He has set for you.

Dear one, God wants to do amazing things in and through you. If each of us will cooperate with Him, we will see something marvelous occur. We will witness the rise of Christ’s church! As we become one with Him, we will become one with each other, and Jesus will see the fulfillment of His prayer that night in the Garden of Gethsemane.

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:22-23

Could ours be the generation that sees this accomplished? It’s time the world discovers that Jesus is exactly who He says He is.

I’m game. Are you?

Blessings, dear one.

Week 8: Equipped for Your Calling

Do you ever feel like you just don’t have the ability to do what you feel God is calling you to do? I can relate! Doubt has a way of derailing us from experiencing the wonder of God at work in our lives. Today God wants to shift your focus off of your inability and onto His great ability.

Week 8 Assignment

Complete Days 3-5 of Week 4 in your workbook.

Additional Suggestion:

Ask God to show you opportunities where you can exercise faith and trust Him. When doubt tempts you to turn back, choose to stand on God’s promises… I AM, I can, I will.

Week 7: Empowered by Grace

We have reached the final week of the workbook. Well done! God will bless your perseverance as you follow hard after Him.

Today we take a deeper look at the grace of God. Grace offers so much more than what most of us understand. We will dig into Scripture to discover some of what God reveals in His Word about grace. I pray you will open your heart to receive His Truth so that you can become empowered by God’s great gift.

Week 7 Assignment

Complete Days 1-2 of Week 4 in your workbook

Additional Suggestion:

Take some time to consider the impact grace has had in your own life. Do those around you bear witness to its affect on you? Has the gospel come to you “not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction” (1 Thessalonians 1:5)?

If so, take some time to thank God for His grace and invite Him to reveal more of His lavish plan for you. If not, consider that faith and humility are the keys to accessing the grace of God. Surrender yourself to His will for you and commit to trust Him as He leads you. Ask Him to help you believe and step into His promises. Then get ready to experience the touch of His grace.

Week 6: Loving God With All Your Heart

Welcome back! I pray you are beginning to discover that Jesus longs to fill you with Himself. He wants more than simply to dwell within your heart; He wants to take it over.

This week we will try to gain some understanding of how that takes place. Although this video is the longest session, its message holds the key to dwelling in Christ’s empowerment and living in the freedom He died to give you. I pray you experience the blessing of  John 8:32,

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Week 6 Assignment

Complete Days 4-5 of Week 3 in your workbook

Additional Suggestion:

I encourage you to mark Psalm 139: 23-24 in your Bible and make it a consistent part of your prayer life. You will not recognize all that binds your heart without divine intervention, and Jesus longs to set you free, dear one.

Ask Him to begin revealing the sin that binds your heart and invite Him to show you the steps you must take to get free. Have you been pretending everything’s fine and ignoring the need for heart transformation? Maybe you’ve simply been admitting something to God and not really confessing it. Or do you expect God to miraculously free you from something while you still hold tightly to it with both hands? Ask Jesus to reveal the true condition of your heart. Then ask Him for the strength to trust Him completely. As you surrender your heart bit by bit to His leadership, you will discover a freedom and power that you have never known. And those around you will begin to witness and experience God’s love pouring out from your new heart.

Week 5: The God Who Fills

Hello, dear one! We have reached a pivotal point in our study together. Our focus shifts this week from our exploration of faith to the inner work that Jesus desires to perform in each of our hearts. I pray that the understanding of this material will open the way for each of us to experience John 7:38,

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

Week 5 Assignment

Complete Days 1-3 of Week 3 in your workbook

Additional Suggestion:

Spend some time in prayer asking God to ready your heart to receive Him fully. Ask Him to reveal any areas that you have held back from Him. Surrender everything to Him. Then boldly ask as Moses did:

“Now show me your glory.” Exodus 33:18

Week 4: Release Your Expectations

I’m praying that last week’s break offered you some time to get caught up in your lessons. Thank you for your patience while we dealt with some overwhelming snow conditions! Thankfully, we’re back on track and ready to advance into God’s beautiful plan.

Dear one, God wants to do amazing things in your life. But sometimes we can be our own worst enemy to seeing His blessings fulfilled. We hold so tightly to our own desires or expectations that we forfeit what God desires to pour out. May this lesson encourage you to open your hands so you can receive all that God longs to give.

Week 4 Assignment

Complete Days 3-5 of Week 2 in your workbook.

Additional Suggestion:

As you work through your lessons this week, ask God to speak to you about the condition of your own heart. Do you tend to be more like Saul or like David? Invite God to change your desires and help you to fully live His will instead of your own. Begin the practice of inviting His leadership into every aspect of your day.

Week 3: Living By Faith

Do you sense that God has somewhere to take you through this study? Your journey has only just begun! I’m praying for you that God will open your mind to new understanding of the scriptures (Luke 24:45). Remember, His Word cannot go forth without accomplishing something (Isaiah 55:11). Keep planting the seeds of His Word, and you will reap a beautiful harvest!

Week 3 Assignment

Complete days 1-2 of Week Two in your workbook. Make sure you ask God to reveal how what you’re studying applies to you.

Additional Suggestion:

Consider my testimony from the bottom of page 31-32. Can you identify tangible evidence of grace in your life? If you can, take some time to write it down and offer praise to God for how He has moved in your life. Then invite Him to do more!

If you can’t, spend some time asking God why that might be. Just as He did for me all those years ago, He will reveal whatever truth you need to see. Once He reveals it, ask Him to empower you to act on it. Then get ready to experience the touch of His grace.

Week 2: Follow the Light

Welcome back! I hope you have been able to work through your lessons and spend some time in God’s presence. He wants to do amazing things in your life. How do I know that? Because He intends to show Himself to the world through His people. And if you’ve put your faith in Jesus and made that commitment to follow Him, you’re one of them!

I guess I spoke too soon last week when I told you the first video would be longer than the others. I have felt compelled to share some testimony in each of the videos so far which adds to the length. I pray that hearing my story and seeing these principles lived out in my life will encourage you on your own journey. Let’s get started!

Week 2 Assignment

Complete days 4-5 of Week One in your workbook. Invite Him to speak to you personally as you study and ask Him to use His Word to light your path.

Additional Suggestion:

Ask God to reveal any specific areas where you are struggling to surrender and follow. What are you holding back from Him? As He sheds His light on your need, ask Him to empower you to trust Him there.

Week 1: Will You be Chosen to Receive Your Blessing?

Thank you so much for joining me on this online journey through Tested by Fire. This first video will be slightly longer than most of our sessions together because it includes some of my testimony and some background on the book. Watch the introductory video below to discover what you can expect from this study and dig into some Bible teaching to prepare your way. I pray that God blesses you as we gather around His Word. Are you ready to leave the desert and enter into your personal Promised Land?

Week 1 Assignment

Complete days 1-3 of week one in your workbook. Don’t forget to invite God’s Presence to meet you there!

Optional Suggestion:

When Joshua was finally ready to lead the Israelites into their Promised Land, he gave them this command. Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Joshua 3:5 Do you believe that God is about to do amazing things in your life? Ask God to show you what you can offer Him as an act of consecration over the next eight weeks. What can you do to show God that you would like to present yourself holy to Him in preparation for His mighty work? Perhaps it’s giving up a television show you watch or cutting back the time you spend on Facebook. Maybe it’s time spent shopping each week or giving up a particular food. Maybe it’s relinquishing a particular activity or finally doing something you know God’s been prompting you to do. Wherever He leads you, ask Him to help you keep your commitment to Him and trust Him to provide. He will honor your step of faith by revealing Himself. Let’s get ready to see God move!

Video Taping For Online Study Begins Today!

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”  At once they left their nets and followed him.

When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Mark 1:16-20 NIV 1984

My heart is full today as we prepare to begin video taping sessions for Tested by Fire. I have to admit, I feel a bit like a fish out of water.

But as I read this story of the calling of Peter, Andrew, James, and John, I’m reminded that Jesus doesn’t call us to remain comfortable, or even invite us to stay with what’s familiar. He simply bids us to follow Him.

Yet an astounding truth surfaces in His invitation to follow. If we will, He will use our lives to catch people, gently rescuing them from the raging waters of the world and inviting them to breathe the fresh air of the Spirit.

Amazing.

I wish I could tell you I’m completely prepared for what’s coming. I’d love to announce that all my outlines are finished and I know exactly where we’re headed. But I need to be honest. I can’t. You see, Jesus hasn’t shown me all of it yet.

And that doesn’t necessarily sit well for a girl with a perfectionist personality and maybe a few tendencies toward control.

But my Lord is asking me trust Him. He’s simply saying, “Come, follow me.”

And I’m ready to follow. Because,

. . . I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.

2 Timothy 1:12

I needn’t fear, because I know the One I believe. And He is faithful.

Just this morning in my quiet time, I read about Jesus in Isaiah 11:1-3.

 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;

from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—

the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and of power,

the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord—

and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

That same Spirit that came to rest on Jesus now resides within me. And He brings with Him every blessing He bestowed on Jesus . . .wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, and the fear of the LORD.

You and I have nothing to fear when we follow Jesus, dear one. Our faith opens us up to the gifts of the Spirit and allows God to reveal Himself.

And that’s good news. Because none of the people joining me in Bible study need me. They need to encounter Jesus through me.

Will you join me in praying for a fresh revelation of Jesus over the next nine weeks of Bible study? Will you pray that the ladies joining me in class will come to experience Jesus in a whole new way? And will you pray that the men and women joining me online through video will sense God’s presence even through the screen?

Thank you, dear one. God is about to do amazing things among us.

We’d love you to join us. Just click here to register. Do you sense Jesus calling you?
