Competition has no place in ministry. In fact, it defies God’s nature—the very nature Jesus redeemed us to reveal.
The LORD our God, the LORD is One. Deuteronomy 6:4
If we want to rise as a beacon of light in this dark world, we will need to work together. Jesus declared in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A cityset on a hill cannot be hidden.” We are His light, but in order for us to overcome the darkness, we must become like a city set on a hill. What is a city? A gathering of MANY people abiding in one place. Christ is our place of abiding, but we must unite—many individuals from different backgrounds—living in agreement with the One in whom we abide… the One who abides in us.
Missionary Heidi Baker said it beautifully.
“Our time for taking up a fishing pole and waiting three hours to catch one fish is over. It is not a time for one or two super-anointed evangelists to dominate the work of the harvest. It is a time for us to cooperate in laying down the vast nets God has placed in our hands. We do not need to strive to the breaking point. We simply need to be hidden inside His heart and work together. God loves it when different streams of the church join in love to take in His net. I believe He is raising up an army of laid-down lovers who will each hold on to his or her part of the net in order to bring in fish by the millions.” (Birthing the Miraculous, p. 46-47)
I am thrilled to hold the net with my brothers and sisters in Christ. May God bring a bountiful harvest!
